Majors line up for chance to appear on new LED screen

Shanghai's largest outdoor LED screen could become the focus of a bidding war between advertisers, with the screen's owner set to offer the contract to a single brand.

Due to begin construction in January, the LED screen will adorn the side of the Hongyi Tower at the junction of Nanjing and Henan Roads. Manufactured by Daktronics -- the same company behind outdoor screens in New York City's Times Square and Piccadilly Circus in London -- it will operate 24 hours a day.

Two other competing screens in Shanghai both have an advertiser list of more than 50 clients each on a monthly basis. Frontiers Group has been appointed to secure an advertiser for the screen and, according to business development manager Max Palethorpe, major brands like Coca-Cola and Pepsi have already expressed interest.
