Maersk appoints WPP Media as global marketing partner

The account will be run out of Copenhagen for Maersk’s marketing across 130 countries, including APAC.

Maersk has appointed WPP Media as its global marketing partner effective this month. WPP Media will manage the shipping company’s marketing activities across 130 countries, including APAC, from a central hub in Copenhagen.

Havas Media Network was the incumbent on the account. WPP's partnership will be structured on data-driven decision-making, AI-powered platforms and regional optimisation.

“Managing a global brand at scale requires more than operational excellence—it demands strategic clarity, agility, and a partner who understands the nuances of our ambition,” said Rasmus Rudnik Hansen, head of marketing media global at Maersk. “WPP Media’s platform and approach align with our vision to position marketing as a driver of commercial growth. Their ability to balance global consistency with local relevance, while offering transparency and actionable insights, makes them a natural fit for our next chapter.”

Tina Gretlund, CEO of WPP Media's EssenceMediacom agency brand in Denmark, who will lead the dedicated global team, said: "Our strength lies in combining data insights with innovative digital solutions, which is key to supporting Maersk’s ambitions."

The appointment follows recent high-profile wins for WPP Media, including the acquisition of Suncorp's $140 million media account from OMD and Mastercard's $180 million account to WPP Media from Carat
