The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau (LACVB) is to set its sights on Asia Pacific conference, exhibition and incentive markets, particularly Japan, to increase visitor numbers to the city.
"With Japan's economy regaining strength, we feel that there is a significant opportunity for a substantial growth in inbound visitor numbers over the next three years," LACVB president Mr George Kirkland said.
"We have elaborated business plans to develop the markets in Korea, Australia, China and Taiwan over a period of the next few years." The bureau has an office in Japan and, with 85 flights a week from Japan to Los Angeles, has predicted a 14% rise in visitors by 2002 to 795,000.
