Korean FDA hires crisis counsel

Communications Korea (CK) has won the business to build the Korea Food & Drug Administration's (KFDA) crisis management system following a three-way pitch. The agency battled Korcom Porter Novelli and Institute for Crisis Management to take the account, according to CK president and CEO Kim Kyong-Hae.

"This is the first time that KFDA, a Governmental body responsible for the safety of food and medicine, decided to hire a PR agency, as Korea is seeing a lot of food and drug-related crises," said Kim.

"It is a significant move that a Governmental body has commissioned a civil agency to support its crisis management system building." CK will work on the four-month project, which includes an analysis of the sector and the development of a crisis strategy. Virtual scenarios, a crisis management master plan, a crisis management manual, and an evaluation system for the KFDA are also core components of the brief.

"Due to the unique business culture of Korea, Western-style crisis management services are of limited applicability," added Kim. Separately, CK has appointed former Maeil Business Newspaper journalist Lee Joo-ho to the newly-created post of vice-president.
