Kompas taps BBDO, Proximity for online

JAKARTA - Kompas Gramedia, Indonesia's largest media conglomerate, has appointed BBDO and Proximity to handle communications for the launch of the online news portal Kompas.com.

The Omnicom agencies saw off four other agencies to secure the business, with a brief to strengthen the Kompas brand in the digital space.

Taufik H Mihardja, Kompas.com executive director, said: “The concept presented to us best fits our communication need for this market, (to achieve our) objective of becoming the biggest and most comprehensive portal in Indonesia.”

Putra Abduldjalil, general manager of BBDO Indonesia said: “We had to dig really deep to win this project. Cyber geeks are not your typical consumers. They need to be overwhelmed. That’s why we came out with one of our most innovative campaigns yet. We were not sure the client would dare buy it, but they did.”

Kompas.com is the latest incarnation of what was Kompas Online, a portal for news and e-commerce for Kompas Gramedia’s flagship newspaper, Kompas Daily.
