JWT wins NZ power provider, Contact Energy

NEW ZEALAND - JWT NZ has been appointed sole creative agency for Contact Energy, following a competitive pitch process.

JWT will be providing all the company's creative and strategic counsel across brand and retail. 

Contact Energy is one of the nation's largest listed companies, providing electricity, natural gas and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) to roughly 560,000 customers nationwide. 

Prior to this appointment, it's believed that Contact Energy worked with a stable of agencies which included Insight, Scooter and String Theory, said Contact Energy's general manager of strategic communications and partnerships, Nicholas Robinson. 

“Following a rigorous and lengthy pitch process, JWT stood out for us with their critical thinking, outstanding creative and seasoned talent," said Robinson.

One of the core problems JWT NZ looks forward to tackling is consumer indifference towards power providers, said Simon Lendrum, managing director for JWT NZ.

"At JWT our focus has been on overcoming consumer indifference, and the energy category has certainly suffered from this indifference historically, so we’re looking forward to the challenge," he said.

Contact Energy has also recently appointed Mediacom as its new agency and is currently looking to hire a design and branding agency. 

"We need to get closer to our customers and the way to do that was through consolidating our activity," said Robinson.
