The development follows a pitch for the CDMA account in April (Media, 3 May), which reportedly included overall incumbent JWT, Euro RSCG, TBWA and Dentsu.
It is also believed JWT has secured China Unicom’s corporate and ‘bridge to 3G’ assignments. JWT Beijing GM Oliver Zhu declined to comment.
The CDMA review was preceded by a pitch for a high-end GSM servicing project, with TBWA reportedly poised to secure this after besting up to six other contenders. While sources earlier indicated that the project could lead to the entire GSM creative account, it now appears that the GSM division will hold a full-service creative account review.
TBWA China MD Gavin Heron declined to comment.
China Unicom’s overall advertising spend is estimated at US$100 million.
