Ortega replaces Matthew Seddon, who left JWT to take the helm of Ace Saatchi & Saatchi (Media, 7 December).
Ortega left BBDO Guerrero Ortega in 2004, and has since been running the brand strategy agency BrandLab. BrandLab launched with BBDO backing, but the network later divested its shares and Ortega ran the company as an independent business.
The move coincides with a name change for BBDO Guerrero Ortega, which has dropped the ‘Ortega’ from its name.
Separately, BBDO Guerrero has launched a project to lower its impact on the environment with the help of its client, WWF.
The NGO has begun collecting data to assess the agency’s carbon footprint, and will later give advice on how to reduce its emissions.
In return, the agency will produce campaigns for WWF targeted at other companies, offering firms advice on how they can reduce their carbon footprints.
David Guerrero, the agency’s chairman, said: “The incentive for reducing carbon emissions for most companies in the Philippines is one of cost saving.”
But this is a country which is more affected by climate change than most.
People are starting to support businesses that are doing something to halt climate change.
