Joyo Amazon hands PR to Waggener Edstrom

SHANGHAI - Amazon.com Chinese subsidiary Joyo Amazon has handed its mainland PR business to Waggener Edstrom, following a competitive review.

The agency will be charged with driving online consumer engagement and sales volume through product public relations and strategic media events, and to raise consumer awareness of the breadth of Joyo Amazon’s offerings - particularly books, music, DVDs, consumer electronics, watches, and beauty and cosmetic products.

The business was previously handled by Edelman. WagEd secured the account after a pitch that included five agencies over two rounds.

WagEd China GM and VP Winnie Lai said: “We believe that our client has chosen us because of our strength in digital and online communications strategies, especially in blog engagement, forums and viral marketing.

The mainland PR agencies may not have the cutting edge digital message communications and research tools that we have championed from our US office.”
