Job's done, says departing Lowe Asia CEO Gilbert

Nigel Gilbert, chairman and CEO of Lowe Worldwide in Asia, will leave the network at year-end, leaving Asian offices to report directly to the UK headquarters as no replacement will be made.

Gilbert is the latest in a series of senior Asia-based executives to depart the network after restructuring the region into four key hubs -- a concept dubbed the 'Lighthouse' model and adopted by then new worldwide CEO Tony Wright early this year. "It was a structure I put together as a way of managing this large and diverse region," said Gilbert, who saw his job specs rejigged from Asia-Pacific president to chairman and CEO for Southeast Asia and North Asia to accompany the restructuring. "Since February, my principal role has been in helping cement the new structure across Asia-Pacific, as well as hiring key senior talent and I am pleased with the transition." Lowe has struggled in Asia after losing the HSBC business in a global holding company review in 2003.
