J&J nears global media decision

GLOBAL - Johnson & Johnson will unveil the results of its $US3 billion media review tomorrow (Thursday) night, with Universal McCann and OMD expected to share the $300 million Asia Pacific business.

According to sources, the IPG media network will hang on to J&J media duties in key market Japan. It will also keep it in the Philippines and in Malaysia, and gain ground in Singapore and Thailand, where it co-runs the business with Initiative.

OMD retains the China J&J account, although the results in Indonesia and Australia, which are handled by Universal McCann, and India, where MediaCom and Universal share the business, were unclear at Media's press time.

Aegis’ Carat, which was invited to join the pitch last month (Media, 7 May), misses out in Asia-Pacific.

The $3 billion review kicked off in April, after the healthcare giant's acquisition of Pfizer Consumer Healthcare in 2006.
