JCDecaux retains HK outdoor deal in fierce bidding

HONG KONG: Incumbent JCDecaux has snagged the outdoor contract for the city's train network following a two-month pitch.

The operator beat a crowded pool of rivals, including POAD and Media Partners International, in a pitch to renew the contract to manage and sell MTR's outdoor inventory on its four urban lines.

The new contract will run for five years and covers about 20,000 ad panels on the Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, Island and Tung Chung lines, which reported passenger traffic of 758 million last year.

JC Decaux has been the sole agent for MTR's outdoor network for the past 20 years. Describing it as the largest advertising contract ever awarded in Hong Kong, JCDecaux 's general manager, Stephen Wong, estimated the deal to be worth HK$300 million (USS$38 million).
