JCDecaux gains Seoul monopoly on taxi shelters

SEOUL: JCDecaux has expanded its presence in Asia after forging a joint-venture agreement that makes it the sole operator of taxi shelter advertising in Seoul.

It inked a deal with Korean outdoor agency, In-Poong, to help the Government design and install 526 taxi shelters to replace an existing network which was built in the 1970s.

JCDecaux Asia managing director Jean-Michel Geffroy said the upgrades were part of a Government plan to spruce up Seoul ahead of this year's World Cup competition. "The current shelter is a very basic model, which does not carry any advertising at all. Our purpose is to give a new dynamism to this market,

said Geoffroy. Seoul has one network of taxi shelters, handled entirely by the 50:50 joint-venture between JCDecaux and In-Poong.

JCDecaux Pearl & Dean Singapore managing director Ashley Stewart said the joint ventures represented an effective manner in which to enter new markets.
