ITV unveils entertainment channel in Asia

HONG KONG - ITV Worldwide, the international distribution arm of the UK commercial TV network, has announced plans to launch a new as-yet un-named pan-regional general entertainment channel across Asia.

The initial preview channel will be based on commercial distributor Granada International’s UK TV channel, which is expected to be rebranded and relaunched later in the year.

Broadcast by Asia Broadcast Satellite, the channel’s programming will include a mixture of contemporary drama, comedy, reality and talk shows sourced from ITV.

While the channel is currently distributed in the Middle East, ITV Worldwide president and managing director Peter Iacono commented that Asia presented "very exciting" opportunities. The move is understood to be part of an ongoing push by the network to broaden its global reach.
