Discover volcanic mountains, underwater adventures and enjoy traditional Korean culture. No destination on Jeju is more than an hour’s drive away and any journey promises to be scenic and colourful, at any time of year.
Start the day by blowing away the cobwebs beside the ocean with an exploration of Jeju’s
rock formations on the southwest coastline. The 395-metre high Mount Sanbang is a Unesco World Heritage Site and the coastline is especially rugged with islets and rock shapes.
Drive back to Seogwipo to take a private submarine tour to explore Jeju’s rich marine life. During the 80-minute trip the submarine travels 30 metres below sea level through coral and past colourful fish.
Enjoy a light lunch at a local art gallery overlooking the Cheonjiyeon Waterfall and enjoy the view of the Bridge of Seven Nymphs. Next is a visit to one of Asia’s largest Zen Buddhist temples, Yakcheonsa Temple, home to 18,000 tiny statues of Buddha.
Finish the afternoon with a hot-air balloon ride for views of the coastline, countryside and one of the best views of Mount Halla, the 1,950-metre dormant volcano that created the island 25,000 years ago. Dinner is by lantern light back on ground level at Spirited Garden, the world’s largest Bonsai garden, which demonstrates perfectly the aesthetic of blending trees, stone and water to create harmonious balance.
