IPG wins global remit from Saudi petrochemical company SABIC

GLOBAL - Following a six-month competitive review that also involved Omnicom, Publicis and WPP, Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC) has selected the Interpublic Group (IPG) as its global agency of record for all areas of communications including advertising, media, public relations, design, web marketing and brand activation.

The petrochemical producer was seeking a partner to provide globally unified corporate communications services, "operating with a single voice in all global geographies" to bring the brand to life and articulate its strategic goals.

Samir Al-Abdrabbuh, vice president of corporate communications, complimented the other agencies but said "a fair and rigorous" process resulted in the selection of IPG as SABIC’s one-stop shop and the team best positioned to strengthen the brand worldwide.

Michael Roth, chairman and CEO of IPG, said that IPG will serve SABIC through a new strategic business unit, reporting to him, that draws on experts from McCann Worldgroup’s B2B specialist McCann Enterprise and Weber Shandwick, among others.

SABIC ranks among the world’s top petrochemical companies, producing polyethylene, polypropylene and other thermoplastics, glycols, methanol and fertilizers. The company recorded net profit of US$7.80 billion in 2011.
