Merdeka Square and China Town as well as major hotel areas listed at myhoponhopoff.com.
LAKE GARDENS
Ringing downtown KL is the city’s green belt, a 91-hectare oasis of greenery, botanical gardens and flowering plants. It is a sanctuary for birds and wildlife, with footpaths for visitors. The park contains a few pleasant attractions. There is the National Monument, which features a dramatic
bronze statue by American sculptor Felix de Weldon to commemorate the fallen heroes of World War Two and the Malayan Emergency period of communist unrest.
Also within the park are: the KL Bird Park, which claims it is the largest open aviary in
the region; the Orchid Garden; the Hibiscus Garden; the Butterfly and Deer Park; and the
National Planetarium. The planetarium is joined to the National Museum by a walkway.
SHOPPING
KL is a shoppers’ haven. Central Market is a large centre that is an ideal place to shop for
curios and handicrafts.With good timing, plan a trip to the Sunday Market, open from
Saturday night until early Sunday morning. Other shopping opportunities include: the
upmarket designer goods at Lot 10 and KL Plaza; street fashion at Sungei Wang Plaza;
Imbi Plaza and Low Yat Plaza for computer and electronics; and mega-mall Berjaya Times
Square. All are located in the ‘Golden Triangle’, the centre for nightlife, major hotels and dining.
