Ericsson and Hong Kong telecom network provider SmarTone have
jointly developed General Packet Radio Services (GPRS), a form of mobile
phone Internet technology. Mobile phone users will be able to send and
receive emails, browse the Web, utilise a host of future services and at
the same time conduct voice conversation.
GPRS is a new technology for transporting data over GSM mobile networks;
and the Ericsson-SmarTone venture successfully demonstrated live
multiple GPRS calls with Internet surfing, email handling and FTP file
transfers.
