Japan has the biggest Internet market in Asia-Pacific, according to
a joint study by ACNielsen and NetRatings.
The survey found that there are currently 15 million Web surfers in
Japan.
In sharp contrast, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and
Taiwan have a combined Internet-active population of nine million.
The significance of Japan is further underpinned by a strong 13 per cent
penetration rate; not far behind Hong Kong (16 per cent) and Taiwan (14
per cent).
Singapore, Australia and New Zealand have exceptionally high penetration
rates of about 30 per cent.
The findings also show that just under half of the PCs in Japan are
Internet-capable.
In addition, nearly four per cent of households have mobile phones which
can access the World Wide Web.
