The company has also set up a marketing and distribution arm in Chennai called India Household and Healthcare, which will launch a range of LG Care products including toothpastes, detergent powders, shampoos, soaps, cleaners, kid diapers and hairstyling products. Of these, toothpastes, detergent powders, shampoos and soaps will be the immediate focus, with a national rollout expected within the next three months.
LG Care's consumer goods business preceded its electronics business in most markets; India being one of the rare exceptions.
Ram Sehgal, managing director, Everest, said: "The brand is going to enter on the strength of its quality and research and will look at specific segments. For instance, in toothpastes, LG Care has a whole range catering to different requirements. There is one toothpaste for whitening, one for tartar control, one exclusively for children. In soaps too, the accent is as much on skincare as on cleaning. Plus the state-of-the-art packaging of LG Care matches whatever is currently available in India."
