India: Khanna takes the helm at Zee after Purohit quits

MUMBAI: Zee Network, after a brief hiatus following the exit of Apurva Purohit to Times Television early this year, has shifted Sunil Khanna from within its fold to take charge as president.

Khanna joined Zee Telefilms in 1993 and was responsible for conceptualising and implementing its business plan for the cable network Siticable. In August 2000, he was assigned charge of turning the Zee Channels into 'pay mode' and headed the business of Zee-Turner as chief executive officer.

In January, he was assigned the responsibility of business head Zee TV.

Zee Network has also named Ashish Dabral as vice-president to handle the business of Zee TV.

Meanwhile, the team for channel Trendz (part of the network), which recently moved operations to Mumbai, has also been strengthened with the appointment of Amrita Dhillon, who has been assigned to look after the channel operations as manager - marketing and business development.

According to Khanna, "Zee has delivered good shows that have tasted success over time, including Antakshari... The focus going forward will be to build on strengths for the the channel through constant market research and proactively understand what kind of new formats or shows viewers would like to watch."
