INDIA: Beotra quits Bharti to join Lowe Delhi as EVP

NEW DELHI: Mohit Beotra, formerly head of the pre-paid business at the cellular phone major Bharti Telecom, is slated to take charge of Lowe India's Delhi office as executive vice-president.

Beotra, who will be stepping into the shoes of Santosh Kumar Sood, who left Lowe in October 2003 for Rediffusion DY&R, first joined Lintas - as Lowe was originally called - in 1990, after graduating from IIM Calcutta.

Beotra faces a tough call at Lowe Delhi, which has been shaken by the loss of business as well as a number of key executives during the last three months or so. Late last year, the office lost the business of Korean consumer durables firm LG, which split its account between McCann-Erickson and Ogilvy & Mather.

Lowe management was quick to respond; in December, Anil Thakraney, former editor of The Brief magazine, joined Lowe as creative head. With Beotra at the helm, the Delhi branch of Lowe, will be aggressively pitching for new business to compensate for the US$20 million dent from the LG loss.

"The mandate is to obviously to grow business," Beotra said.

Beotra has worked on brands such as ITC's Classic Filter Kings, Maruti Alto, Fair & Lovely cream, Clinic shampoo and Rexona deodorant from the Unilever stable.
