Hyundai Card media to be managed by TBWA

SEOUL: TBWA\Korea has won media planning and buying accounts from Hyundai Card and Hyundai Capital, worth an estimated US$38 million. The accounts went to the agency following a competitive pitch against incumbent BBDO, and Publicis Welcomm.

TBWA also handles creative for Hyundai Card's 'M' card product, along with corporate public relations, and put the win down to a strong creative presentation.

"We showed a different thinking as to how to use the media," said TBWA/Korea director of media Hyon-Ju Cho, who will lead the business. "BBDO did a superb job in improving the cost-effectiveness of TV, but we tried to give them different ideas.

"We have a good relationship with the client by handling M card for a long time. We also tried to show more accountability of their investment."

Cho added that TBWA/Korea would hire an additional person to "work 100 per cent on this account."

Creative for 'S' card and Hyundai Capital is handled by Publicis Welcomm and boutique shop White, respectively. Hyundai Card is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors, and is ranked third in Korea's fiercely-contested credit card market, behind Samsung Card and LG Card.
