Hong Kong Q1 digital spend hits US$22m

HONG KONG - Online adspend in Hong Kong reached HK$172m (US$22m) in the first quarter of 2008, according to Nielsen Online.

The quarterly report reveals that more than 1,000 advertisers in Hong Kong engaged in online advertising. They launched more than 2,800 advertising campaigns, which generated more than 5.5bn ad impressions.

More than 50% of the total adspend came from four categories: computers and electrical, which spent 17% of the total online expenditure; finance, which spent 15%; education and learning with 12%; and entertainment, which spent 9%.

Citicorp Group, parent of Citibank, was the leading corporation to spend online, investing HK$10.3m and receiving more than 330m impressions on its ads. eBay was the second largest spender with HK$7.9m and 254m impressions. The Hong Kong government was the fifth biggest spender, investing HK$5.4m for 175m impressions.
