Hong Kong Poly to host training course

HONG KONG In another step toward positioning Hong Kong as the Asian centre for tourism and training, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Hotel and Tourism Management will host its inaugural Convention Management: Association and Corporate Meetings seminar on June 2-4.

By Suzanne Dennis HONG KONG In another step toward positioning Hong Kong as the Asian centre for tourism and training, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Hotel and Tourism Management will host its inaugural Convention Management: Association and Corporate Meetings seminar on June 2-4. Speaking for the first time since assuming her position as honorary professor at the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, former Hong Kong Tourist Association executive director Ms Amy Chan said "the time was right" for Hong Kong to draw on its expertise in areas such as convention management to position itself as a leader in business tourism education. "I was invited to join the Hong Kong Poly to help design and develop programmes to help bring the industry closer together, not just in Hong Kong but in China and around the Asia Pacific region," Ms Chan said. The three-day course will cover a wide range of topics from tapping new markets, the China meetings market, bidding preparation, site selection, buyer-supplier relationships, marketing and future trends. Speakers will include Ms Chan, Hong Kong Tourism Board's Ms Mabel Hung and Ms Monica Lee-Mueller from the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
