Honda calls creative pitch in Indonesia

JAKARTA - Astra Honda Motor (AHM), a unit of Indonesia's largest automotive distributor Astra International, has called a creative pitch for its Honda motorcycle brands.

Agencies including Kawan, Ideasphere, Lowe, JWT and Neo are believed to be involved.

The motoring giant favours working with different agencies on new projects and currently works with several creative partners, including Euro RSCG, Matari, Fortune, Octocomm and Oze for different products in Indonesia.

In January this year AHM appointed Oze to launch New Absolute Revo 110, its flagship CUB (cheap urban motorbike). The new motorbike is a stylish version of Honda Revo, which was launched in the Indonesian market in 2007. Honda Revo is currently one of the best-selling brands in the motorcycle category.

According to reports, Indonesia's total motorcycle sales are expected to drop by up to 28 per cent this year as a result of the global economic slowdown. Astra Honda Motor expects total motorcycle sales of between 4.5 million and five million units in 2009, down from a record high of 6.2 million in 2008. The company estimates its motorcycle sales to fall by up to 27 per cent to 2.1 million to 2.4 million units, from 2.8 million in 2008.

However, its market share is expected to remain stable at 46 per cent to 48 per cent this year.
