Branded as Meetings and Exhibitions Hong Kong (MEHK), the initiative is a response to the government’s ecent injection of US$19 million to grow the MICE market over next five years.
MEHK will be a one-stop shop for event organisers. Speaking to the trade media, HKTB executive director, Anthony Lau said: “The overall proposal needs to be approved by the board and government’s Steering Committee for MICE in May 2008. We hope things will materialise in summer.
“Hopefully, we will expand the MICE team to around 30 gradually as it takes time to recruit the right people.”
Currently, there are only 13 staff responsible for MICE promotion in both local and overseas HKTB’s offices.
