H&K to grow stake in Synergy in Korea

SEOUL - Hill & Knowlton is set to become the majority stakeholder in Korean marketing services agency Synergy Hill & Knowlton, with the acquisition of additional shares in the company.

According to a WPP statement, the move is a continuation of the network's expansion strategy in important markets and sectors.

The WPP-owned public relations firm has held a minority stake in Seoul-based Synergy since 2001. Having been founded nine years ago, Synergy Hill & Knowlton is supported by a staff of 33 and works with clients such as Johnson & Johnson, LG Electronics, Pernod Ricard Korea, Yongsan Commercial Development Zone Corporation and the Organizing Committee for the Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea.

Separately, Hill & Knowlton has appointed former ESPN Star Sports China managing director Gu Lufeng (pictured) as deputy general manager of its Shanghai office.

Gu will reportedly be responsible for driving new business development and offering strategic media advice to clients.
