HK rail extension touts ad reach in mainland market

The Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) will roll out new outdoor advertising opportunities with the opening of its East Tsim Sha Tsui rail extension in November this year.

The new KCR East Rail forms a direct link with the New Territories and southern China as well as a link into Hong Kong's retail hub of Tsim Sha Tsui (TST). The 30,000 square metre two-level TST station will offer advertising opportunities to marketers who want to target the anticipated increase of tourists into the region especially from the mainland. On offer are 81 x four-sheet panels, 103 x 12-sheet panels, and 2 x 'spectacular' panels both along the trackside and around the station building as well as panels lining the escalator. Price rates range from HK$8,000 (US$1,025) for a four-sheet panel for four weeks to $29,000 for a spectacular panel for four weeks. "Passengers travelling from Lo Wu will have a chance to reach TST directly and attract an untapped group of audiences from the mainland and New Territories" said Winnie Ooi, general manager, transportation displays international (TDI). According to TDI, the network media representative, the expected number of travellers is to reach 100,000 people per day and will have up to 27 trains per hour at peak times running through.
