HK govt to allow ads on bus window

Advertisers will soon be able to place ads on bus windows for the

first time in Hong Kong, following a government decision to partially

lift restrictions in this area.

From next month, bus body advertising can be extended to cover 20 per

cent of the window space on the upper, rear decks of buses; however, bus

companies aren't likely to increase prices in the foreseeable

future.

New World First Bus Services general manager public communication, Kwan

Chuk Fai said there were no plans to raise prices.

The government has long banned bus companies from using bus windows as

advertising space. However, last July it partially lifted the ban to

allow a six-month trial run.

And although advertising covers the windows, Mr Kwan said there would be

no impact on passengers' field of vision.

The first of New World's buses to take advantage of the government's

relaxation of the ban will ply the North Point to Western district route

on Hong Kong Island, because a very large number of commuters take this

route every day.

Mr Kwan told MEDIA that further opportunities to utilise bus space for

advertising will be explored, including the possibility of using the bus

floors and ceiling space.

Top Result Promotion is the sole advertising rep for New World First

Bus, and Hong Kong business unit deputy general manager Paul Leung said

that the new scheme would help increase the bus company's revenue

because advertisers have more space to choose from.
