HK first to roll out Superbrand title of upscale labels

Godiva Chocolatier, Hermes and local brands, including upscale members' clubs, are among more than 50 brands featured in Superbrands' new book venture, Luxury Superbrands.

The brands -- selected by a panel of experts -- featured a selection of local brands such as Chinese Arts & Crafts, Kee Club and King Fook Jewellery and international labels. The book was launched at what was billed as the 'art of luxury' party at the newly-opened Jia boutique hotel apartments, designed by renowned designer Philippe Starck. Superbrands is a London-based operation that has produced a series of books that chronicles the world's greatest brands since 1994. This is the first time it has published a luxury labels version. Superbrands group managing director Peter Jeffery said: "Hong Kong, known for its luxurious lifestyle, was the obvious place to launch Superbrands' first tribute to the art of luxury." Luxury Superbrands Council chairman Jasper Donat said the model would be expanded to other countries in the near future. "This will be used to springboard the idea around the world, with the next one possibly being in Europe." Apart from Donat, members included Ian Hawksworth, HongKong Land executive director, Hysan Development managing director Michael Lee and Shun Tak Holdings MD Pansy Ho.
