Hong Kong's exhibition industry has expanded in the past year, according to a study carried out by the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Organisers and Suppliers Association (HKECOSA).

In three years the industry has grown by 41%, generating HK$7.8billion (US$1billion) for the local economy in 1999.

The research revealed that exhibition visitors stayed an average of five days compared with 3.4 days for other visitors and spent twice as much. Extra exhibitions have also contributed with more shows added to this year's calendar, HKECOSA chairman Mr Louis Cheng said.
