HK agency hires BBDO's Poon for business growth

Local agency CTWCM Advertising has hired a business and art director to boost the three-year-old shop, which is facing serious challenges on the new business front.

The creative-led shop has hired Nic Poon as business director from BBDO, where he spent four of his 12 years in advertising. Poon also worked at three other 4As agencies -- Lowe, Bozell and Grey. Gwen Yip, who joins as art director, worked in a similar role at Ogilvy & Mather for a year. Yip, who has handled Pizza Hut and Audi, Panadol and Dove in her previous role, will work on KMB, Times Square, Carlsberg and Sunday. Formed by a group of senior creative talent from BBDO, CTWCM saw its HSBC account walk out the door this year because of a global realignment with J. Walter Thompson and Bates, while its Sunday business is now up for review. Partner Paul Chan said the agency would be looking to beef up its head count to free up time for hunting new business. Chan said the agency planned to expand its service offer to include product development and content creation services. "We are planning to maximise the effectiveness of 3G by developing creative content to help advertisers promote their products and brand awareness through 3G," he said.
