HK 4As revamps Creative Awards' agency rankings

HONG KONG: The Hong Kong 4As has introduced a new ranking system

for its annual Creative Awards, which will hold its prize presentation

at month's end.

In previous years, the rankings were compiled based on the number of

awards won by an agency or individual. Under the new system, the Kam Fan

is worth 15 points, gold 10, silver six, bronze four and merit one.

"Award winners of agencies or individual entrants will be ranked in the

award tally according to the number of points gained," said Eddie Booth,

4As Awards co-chairman. Paul Chan, the other co-chairman, added: "This

ranking system is being used in international awards such as Cannes and

it ensures that winning agencies will be recognised for their ability to

create good work consistently instead of relying on one-off awards."

The association has also unveiled a new theme for the awards almost two

months after sparking a row over what was regarded as a racist awards

entry kit.

The theme for the awards, which take place at the end of this month, is

"Breaking the Rules".

The 4As administration director, Margaret Wong, said, said it used a

school scene as the background as it wanted to convey the idea that not

all naughty kids were bad since some pushed the boundaries by breaking

rules.
