HK 4As launches media awards to recognise talent

Following on from similar awards in the UK and Australia, the Hong Kong 4As has launched a media competition to recognise talent in both media agencies and media owning companies.

Entrants will compete in 12 areas, which include the usual competition line-up as well as categories such as best research project and best media sales person. "There are so many more creative-focused awards in the world, but with media agencies being independent for a while, we felt it was time to also recognise talent there," said Mabel Leung, chairman of the 4As' media and research committee. Consumer insights and planning will play a key role in the judging to reflect the role of media agencies in developing the communications strategy, based on the work they do to gather consumer insights, Leung added. Except for the media sales person category, all entries will require the endorsement of clients. Entrants for the former category will require the endorsement of two media agency heads as well as the management of the media owning group. "This award will be based on how well a media sales person understands the agency or client brief and how helpful and innovative they are in coming up with solutions to achieve the objective." The competition will be opened to companies in Taiwan and China as well, with the entry deadline closing on February 28. Awards will be presented at a dinner on April 19. The jury will be chosen from media agencies as well as clients, creative agencies and media owners.
