Henderson quits Universal China for OMD Asia job

Victoria Henderson is returning to Hong Kong to a new role at OMD after about 10 months as MD of Universal McCann's troubled China operation, and 12 years with the network.

Henderson will take up the new role of MD, international, in late May. "We are substantially upgrading our regional account management capabilities and we believe that in Torie we have the best person in the region to lead this process," said Mike Cooper, Omnicom Media Group Asia-Pacific CEO. "Torie is hugely energetic and passionate about our business and has a formidable reputation."

OMD has expanded the role, previously filled by Chris Skinner, now CEO of ZenithOptimedia Hong Kong, to include an operational component and new business development responsibilities on top of managing regional accounts out of the SAR. "OMD has a very good and capable regional team. The new role is about taking leadership of this team," Henderson said, adding that health concerns prompted her to leave China.

Sources had described Henderson's China role as a "fix it" job to shore up UM after it lost L'Oréal and Motorola. Her exit had been tipped after UM came under further pressure with Johnson & Johnson's defection to OMD (Media, February 10). See p21
