Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) will soon be launching two more

English-language newspapers.

A spokesperson said there was room for two more papers because the

market was still growing.

SPH newspapers currently reach a total of 2.7 million readers each day,

and total readership, according to an independent survey, for English

and Chinese dailies grew five per cent last year from 1998, the

spokesperson told MEDIA.

Double-digit growth was seen in Lianhe Wanbao at 11.3 per cent and Shin

Min Daily News at 18.3 per cent. The Business Times, meanwhile, grew at

just over eight per cent.

The new dailies would complement the existing stable of SPH newspapers

and each would have its own identity and positioning.
