HEADLINES: Newsweek circulation up eight per cent

Newsweek's Asia-Pacific circulation rose eight per cent in the key markets of Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia in year's first half, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC). The magazine's growth was the strongest in Singapore, which posted a year-on-year increase of 10.3 per cent, followed by Hong Kong, up nine per cent. Mr Frank Procter, general manager, Pacific edition, described the growth as "encouraging" because of the upscale demographic profile of Newsweek's readership in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. ABC also reported that the publication sold more subscriptions without discounts (up 11.3 per cent), and the use of premiums and gifts to attract sales was reduced (down 13.3 per cent). Newsweek's full Asia circulation totalled 242,784.
