The International Herald Tribune and the Asahi Shimbun have formed

a publishing partnership in Japan. It is the second such venture

undertaken by the IHT over the past few months; the first involved

Korea's JoongAng Ilbo. Globally, the newspaper now has a total of seven

similar partnerships.

Under the latest arrangement, the Asahi Shimbun will close publication

of the English-language Asahi Evening News and will integrate a more

concise version of that newspaper into the IHT. This new editorial

section will appear in all copies of the IHT sold in Japan. The target

date for publication is the second quarter of this year.
