HBO launches in high definition

HONG KONG - HBO has announced the launch of HBO in high definition (HBO in HD) in Asia, beginning with Singapore and the Philippines on 1 October, and followed by Hong Kong over the weekend.

HBO will partner with StarHub in Singapore to distribute the channel, Cignal in the Philippines and now TV for the Hong Kong market.

Movie fans can enjoy the HD experience without additional cost. Jonathan Spink, CEO of HBO Asia, said the channel wants to “add more values” aside from providing heavyweight Hollywood blockbusters.

Dominic Leung, managing director of PCCW’s TV and new media division, which owns now TV, added: “As more Hong Kong households have become HD-ready, we are keen to ensure that now TV customers benefit form the most comprehensive HD offerings made available on our advanced platform.”

In May, HBO Asia rebranded its Cinemax channel as Max to intensify its appeal to male viewers.

HBO is currently distributing in 22 counties in Asia, except Japan, Korea and Australia.
