Haier revisits Olympics brand strategy pitch

QINGDAO - Less than a year after an aborted attempt to review its brand strategy, Chinese home appliance giant Haier Group is set to repeat the exercise in a bid to leverage its sponsorship of the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

As many as six agencies have reportedly been invited to contest the new brief, which calls for a full range of brand communications activities, including strategic planning, advertising, PR, brand activation and digital. It is believed that Euro RSCG, JWT, Y&R, Leo Burnett, Bates and ADK have been invited to pitch.

Currently, the bulk of Haier’s product advertising sits with DraftFCB, with the remainder handled by Asatsu-DK and Dentsu. Saatchi & Saatchi currently handles the company’s corporate image brief.
