Guangdong TV lands foothold in Beijing

<p>Guangdong Satellite Television (GST) has been formally granted the </p><p>right to rebroadcast its signals via Beijing cable TV networks. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The latest coup, following successful negotiations GST has had with </p><p>Beijing Radio and Television Bureau and Beijing TV Station, will give </p><p>the southern China broadcaster access to the audience in the Chinese </p><p>capital. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Provincial satellite TV channels, originally conceived as a way of </p><p>reaching remote audiences, have emerged as strong contenders in </p><p>challenging national broadcaster CCTV's advertising clout. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The provincial stations have been lobbying hard for the right to "land" </p><p>in major cities; many have succeeded through reciprocal agreements </p><p>between cable TV stations. Private satellite ownership is not </p><p>permitted. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Guangdong Satellite Channel is being rebroadcast in cable TV networks in </p><p>1,210 large and medium-sized cities across the country, including </p><p>Chongqing, Hunan and Liaoning. Beijing is a highly-prized addition to </p><p>the list as the capital's affluent audience is sought after by </p><p>advertisers. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Guangdong Satellite Channel is also rebroadcast in 20 cities in other </p><p>countries including the US, and Japan. </p><p><BR><BR> </p>
