Grimshaw becomes new MD of FT.com

HONG KONG - The Financial Times has chosen Rob Grimshaw (pictured) to replace Ian Cheng as managing director of its online component, FT.com.

Upon assuming his new role in June, Grimshaw will become board representative for the website and will be responsible for its strategy and commercial performance. He will work closely with FT.com editor James Montgomery and report to John Ridding, the Financial Times’ chief executive.

Ridding commented that Grimshaw would play an important role in the site’s planned redesigning and enhancements, and help sustain the company’s “online momentum”.

Grimshaw has an eight-year history with the Financial Times, where he was formerly global online advertising director.

The incumbent Cheng, who held the joint role of managing director and publisher, is set to move to Google Europe as director of product management for advertising.
