'Graders' to score agency submissions for HP's global PR review

NORTH AMERICA - HP is set to shortlist three agencies for each of its business units as part of its ongoing global PR review.

The develop-ment comes after HP handed North American PR duties for its personal systems group to Edelman, in a shift that displaces incumbent Porter Novelli.

It is thought that HP has implemented a new process to shortlist contenders, after earlier indications that an online reverse auction would be utilised. Instead, agencies will be shortlisted based on the scores of ‘graders’ from within HP’s communications team. However, sources revealed that the process does not call for graders to review every submission. “If you’re a small firm without relationships or even a big firm without relationships, it’s not good news,” said a source. “The quantitative stuff has to be transparent.”
