GQ maps out India market entry plan

MUMBAI - Conde Nast International has announced plans to launch GQ, an upmarket men's magazine in India by October this year.

GQ’s entry reflects the strong expansion of the luxury market catering to Indian men, who are driving consumption in Asia’s third-biggest economy. GQ India will be the second Condé Nast title in the country, following Vogue, launched last September.

Alex Kuruvilla, managing director of Condé Nast India said: “There is a huge vacuum in the men’s luxury magazine space. Presently there is no high end quality magazine in this space and the mass market Indian lifestyle magazines are not our competitors, neither is the lads magazine segment.”

Sanjiv Bhattacharya has been appointed editor of GQ India. Raised in the UK, Sanjiv has written extensively for GQ’s UK version, where he served first as features and then contributing editor.
