Google set to boost ad revenue by 25 per cent in China

BEIJING - Despite the recent controversy surrounding Google in China, the search engine is poised to announce a second-quarter ad revenue boost of 25 per cent quarter-on-quarter.

According to domestic reports, Google China’s operating revenues also rose between 45 per cent and 50 per cent year-on-year.

The news comes a few weeks after Chinese authorities called for Google to end searches to foreign websites on the grounds that it was encouraging the proliferation of internet pornography. Google was blocked in China at different times following the warning’s issuance.

In response Google chief executive, Eric Schmidt (pictured), told Media that the company “will continue to meet with the Government to address their concerns, and we wish to communicate directly with them in regard to our services and progress in addressing this problem.”

Google claims a 30 per cent search market share in China, the second-most used engine in the market following Baidu, which claims 64 per cent market share.
