“As we continue to invest in India, Shailesh will focus on building a strong sales and operations team, developing Google’s strategic partnerships and enhancing our relationships with industry and Government,” said Sukh-winder Singh Cassidy, Google vice-president, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
Google has been aggressive in India, having recently forayed into its rural sector, looking to develop a simpler search engine targeting the needs of rural population. The customised content for rural customers would include weather updates, crop patterns and other local data.
Google, the first global internet giant to seek a slice of this market, is also looking at licensing partnerships with Indian publishers, broadcasting companies and those that own Bollywood content that could be made available on its sites.
