Google’s statement further read that it was Lau’s decision to resign, adding that, “During his time at Google, Preston was instrumental in successfully building strategic partnerships in the region and in leading the Hong Kong operations. Preston has been a valuable part of Google Hong Kong and we are deeply grateful for the wonderful work he has done”.
The announcement comes less than two months after Google announced plans to restructure its South China and Australasia regional sales and marketing operations as part of a cost-cutting measure. The decision called for the reduction of nearly 200 jobs from these departments worldwide.
At the time, sources confirmed that Google’s Hong Kong office was to see the loss of six staff members, and the restructure would see a closer-working relationship between Google’s South China region to improve sales.
