GolinHarris to manage PR for Habitat for Humanity project

BEIJING - Habitat for Humanity China has tasked GolinHarris with the public relations duties of the 2009 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, an event that will include construction in China and the territory surrounding the Mekong River.

GolinHarris’ staff in Greater China has been charged with managing the organization’s media relations’ programme for the China-focused portion of the volunteer building project, which will take place in Sichuan province from 15-20 November in the area north of Changdu, which was ravaged by the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.

It is the third year GolinHarris has been appointed to manage Habitat for Humanity’s annual five-day event.

The Sichuan construction will run parallel to other building projects taking place around the Mekong River in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, which will include the help of more than 4,000 volunteers coming from around the world.

Each of the projects aims to construct affordable homes for poor families in the region.

Among the promotional activities leading up to the 2009 build, GolinHarris will help initiate the construction of five model houses in Hong Kong’s Victoria Park on 19 September, and will oversee media programmes and building tours in mainland China – which invites 250 volunteers to work with urban families to build 20 homes – to raise awareness of the event.

In addition, GolinHarris noted that the 2009 building project will kick off a five-year Habitat for Humanity initiative to work with 50,000 families across Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China to benefit 50,000 low-income families.
