Global investment bank Goldman Sachs has hired Eddie Naylor as its

first-ever executive director of media relations for Asia.

Naylor joins from ING Barings where he was Asian head of corporate

communications for three years.

The US bank felt the need to create the new post as a result of the

growth in financial services in Asia and its debut on the stock market

last year, according to Lucas Van Praag, Goldman's director of corporate

communications, EMEA.

"The US is an incredibly mature and important market for Goldman's, but

in terms of great potential, that lies in Europe and Asia," he said.

Mr Naylor's brief is to lead media relations across Asia-Pacific,

excluding Japan.

A similar role in Japan will be taken by Orlando Camargo, who joins at

the same time, after three years as vice-president of

Fleishman-Hillard's Tokyo office.

He has been named vice-president of corporate communications, Japan.

They will both report to Peter Rose, Asian director of corporate

communications.

Mr Rose said the media relations role will bring the bank's PR team for

the region up to full strength for the foreseeable future.

Goldman Sachs retains Hill & Knowlton as its regional agency. The recent

hires were designed to complement agency strengths rather than threaten

them, said Mr Naylor.
